People often wonder what it takes for them to achieve their goals. The answer is actually quite simple. During the process of change many often succumb during the most important hurdle, which is failing to take action, often that is all it takes. You may have spend days, weeks, months, sometimes even years contemplating change, but you never took that action that was required to begin the process of change. Once you do, possibilities will open up. If anyone can take that action, then anyone can. Procrastination is often the most common limiting barrier preventing us achieving what we want. So let me show you ten limiting beliefs which may be holding you back in achieving change
Things did not work out as I wished.
We have all engaged in many things in life and perhaps not achieved what we desired, but it didn’t stop us from trying again right? So whats stopping you now? You are still ok aren’t you? When things do not go to plan, it’s a great time to sit, reflect and ask yourself, what worked and what didn’t work well, and if I had to this all over again, how could I have done things differently? Its a fantastic time to learn about yourself, learn about what you could do if you had to do it all over again.
I don’t like this feeling of failure.
People are often scared of trying because of the fear of failure. There is no one in this planet that hasn’t achieve success without experiencing some sort of failure. REMEMBER, there is no such thing as failure, only feedback, and if someone can come back stronger from failure, then anyone can. Haven’t you ever achieved anything in life before? Of course you have! There is no point in turning failure in to a catastrophic event, don’t be so hard on yourself and remember to be grateful for what you have. Others may want what you already have, and if others have whatever it is that you need, then so can you.
What if I fail again?
Failure provided the feedback you needed to confirm that you tried and that you were pushing yourself, and once you realise the feedback from those actions, you can do it again and come back stronger. It’s possible to live a totally mundane life without any failures, but to become a better version of yourself, you need to do some of the things that may cause you to fail. You have to cross that line, because success is just a single step away across that line from failure.
Failure feels uncomfortable
But you can handle it, cant you? Doubting your capability to handle embarrassment, shame or regret can make the weight of failure heavier on your shoulders and last longer than necessary. So dust yourself down and ask, do I really need to feel like this? Why are you letting how you felt yesterday, dictate how you will feel tomorrow? Don’t let your past setbacks shape your future, use it as inspiration and as a springboard to come back again stronger and more determined. The obstacle is the way!
I cant focus after having failed.
You can take action by focusing on the things you can control. You can control what time you go to bed, the time you wake up, what you have for breakfast, what clothes you put on, what time you leave your house, who you speak to during the day, how much time you spend speaking to that person. There is a lot you can control, so take note of all the things you can control now and how does make you feel?
I am not sure I cant do it again.
I am sure you have overcome tough moments in your life before. Trust me when I say, that you have all the resources you need to achieve success, and I can be one of those resources. I dont have the abilities to achieve what I want.
Expanding choice opens up more possibilities. What is that you need that can help you achieve what you want, and what do you need to do to make it happen? Failure is an opportunity to hone your skills and improve your weaknesses. No one is ever born having all the skills they need. We need to work on them. Always change your plan if you have to, but never change your goal and the desired outcome.
I will never achieve what I want.
Every goal has to start somewhere. If you always do what you’v always done, you will always get what you’ve always got. Wouldn’t it be cool to achieve this goal? Just imagine the possibilities if you did. It could open the doors to new challenges, doors you thought were not possible. It can all happen and it all starts by believing and just taking a few small steps to make those big changes. I want what they have, but I cant.
Who says that you cant? What is it that you want but you cant have? If a person has something you wish for, that person may have not had it at some stage, and it’s very possible they must have worked for it too. The sooner you take that first step, the closer you will be to the realisation of that goal.
