BANT CNHC logo

The British Association for Nutrition & Lifestyle Medicine (BANT) is the leading professional body for Registered Nutritional Therapy Practitioners in one-to-one clinical practice and a self-regulator for BANT Registered Nutritionists®, requiring members have a minimum degree in Nutrition and clinical training with a deep understanding of human biochemistry and biology. BANT oversees the activities, training and Continuing Professional Development of its members. It’s important to work with a regulated and clinically trained professional, as anyone can be a nutritionist, but not all nutritionist are regulated, academically and clinically trained at degree level.

BANT practitioner members are required to be registered either with the Complementary & Natural healthcare Council (CNHC) or be statutorily regulated (ie dietician). CNHC holds a register accredited by the UK Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA), an independent body accountable to the UK Parliament. For context, the PSA also regulates General Practitioners and Dieticians in the UK and Gibraltar. CNHC membership ensures conduct, ethics and performance expected of all complementary health practitioners. Only qualified and regulated professionals can recommend personalised dietary and supplement programmes to support persons with medically diagnosed conditions and prescribed medications.

Working with me is a guarantee that you are consulting with a clinically-trained nutritional professional with a strong academic background (MSc & BSc Hons), licensed, regulated, and professionally insured practitioner, who is qualified in blood chemistry analysis and other lab testing techniques, with many years clinical experience successfully supporting clients with a variety of ‘chronic’ health conditions.

It is important to work with a:
1) professional overseen by a recognised regulatory body to guarantee your safety.
2) clinically-trained nutrition professional who can safely and legally work with persons with medically diagnosed conditions and prescribed medications
3) regulated by a recognised body requiring continued professional development
4) has a professional malpractice insurance to cover Nutritional Therapy
5) has completed an Honours Degree or a Masters qualification in a nutrition field.

WARNING: for your safety, you should not work with any nutrition provider who is not a member of any regulatory bodies or not clinically trained in Nutrition to support persons with medically diagnosed conditions.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (constipation dominant)

“I have been dealing with IBS for over twenty years and have suffered with chronic constipation, food intolerances, chronic gut pains, muscle & bone aches and pains, pins & needles on my extremities, excessive bloating & gas. I had seen a lot of specialists throughout the years but only helped a little bit, which was affecting my mental wellbeing. Although a bit skeptical at first, I came to see Andrew as last resort due to positive experiences from Facebook. The transformation has been life-changing to the point that most of my gut symptoms have resolved, regular bowel movements, no pins & needles, feeling much more energetic, and simply doing things I just could not do before. My GP and gastroenterologist are very pleased and encouraged me to continue Andrew’s recommendations. Thank Andrew for your help, really appreciated.”

Chronic constipation

I have attended Mr. Fortuna's clinic on several occasions and I have found him to be very attentive and caring.  He tries hard to understand your symptoms and find a solution to your problem. His advice was very useful and I won't hesitate to consult him in future for further assistance if required.

Eczema

After years of poor diet and a period of stress, I had a break out of eczema. 'Chronic' was the prognosis of more than one doctor but for all their knowledge, the one thing they couldn't give me is time often given in a rush. A local dermatologist had no long-term solutions. But after some intelligent analysis from Andrew the issue improved. 5 months later, I'm sold on a new, healthier lifestyle. Andrew offered a break from all of that by taking a deep-dive into my health, before crashing out of the surface clasping a pearl - the solution. A thorough questionnaire and a blood test presented him with a complete picture of my health, for which he tailored dietary and lifestyle recommendations...that worked! With Andrew, you can be sure his mind isn't on the next patient. If I had to describe Andrew's service in three words: holistic, competent, slick. He helped me get on top of a skin-issue by looking at the big picture of my health, instead of plastering the cracks - and above all, through an exceptional attention to detail that you won't get from any GP. I can't recommend him highly enough and  his long-term programmes!

Digestion, blood pressure, hypothyroidism, overweight

I thought that because I was getting older, weight gain was something I had to accept. I was also having problems with my digestive system, blood pressure, hypothyroidism and lack of sleep. But then, I met Andrew, a true professional, who is teaching me to make small adjustments in my eating habits. A lifestyle plan, not a diet, which is easy to follow, keeps the weight off and helps with my health problems. Andrew, I cannot thank you enough. This is life changing, and I am over the moon with my progress. With your motivation and guidance, I am happpier, healthier, very positive and losing weight. I am very grateful for your support. Thank you.

SPECIAL PROGRAMMES AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE

NT is the application of nutrition and lifestyle medicine sciences in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care based around the Functional Medicine health model. Registered NT Practitioners assess and identify potential nutritional, genetic, epigenetic, dietary and lab biomarker imbalances to understand how these may contributing to a person’s symptoms, health concerns or to prevent disease onset via individualised recommendations. My clinical training allows me to understand and explain the root causes of your symptoms or medicaly diagnosed conditions. I have worked with many clients (see testimonials) experiencing a wide range of complex health conditions on my longer-term NT programmes, with significant improvements in symptoms and quality of life, and even reversal of diagnosed conditions.

Personalised recommendations
By assessing individualised risk factors, biochemical imbalances, as well as established and novel biomarkers which may be provide clues as to what these imbalances may be on each individual, will help identify what your unique imbalances, triggers and root causes for your ill-health may be, hence why nutrition and lifestyle recommendations HAS to be personalised to each individual. You cannot use the same approach for everyone, as doing could result in poor outcomes, ineffective and even lead to adverse effects, especially if prescribed any medications.
